Description of Role

General over-seeing of the Parish finances.

Preparation of annual accounts statements and budgets.

Completion of the annual financial return for the Diocese.

 

Time Required

Attendance at the Parish Finance Committee meetings.

Annual work on Parish and Diocesan figures.

Any other finance-related matters as required.

 

Gifts & Talents

Numerate and with attention to detail.

Discretion and preferably some sort of accountancy background.

 

Support Provided

Assistance from the various groups in the Parish, which have a financial element.

Close liaison with the Parish Priest.

 
   

Gift Aid Organiser

Description of Role

Organise the administration of the Diocesan Gift Aid scheme in the parish in order to optimise the recovery of tax paid to Her Majesties Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

Promote Gift Aid through the parish

 

Time Required

Annually to speak at all Masses one weekend to promote Gift Aid

Annual distribution of Gift Aid envelopes

Quarterly preparation of the Gift Aid return for the parish.

Regular advice to parishioners on Gift Aid

Support Provided

Annual Gift Aid conferences organised by the Diocese.

Description of Role

Working on a rota basis, you count the collection at 7.00 pm on a Sunday evening at the Presbytery, open all envelopes and record contents.

Work in pairs.

Count the collection and bag up the money.

Time Required

Between 30 minutes and 90 minutes every 6 weeks or so

Numerate and able to handle cash.

Reliable.

Hall Manager

Description of Role

Manage the church halls as an important social facility for the parish and the outside general community, specifically

  • Take bookings, send out booking forms, show prospective clients around the hall

  • Available to answer hall queries by phone or e-mail

  • Send out accounts, and bank receipts

  • Responsible for hall maintenance and safety checks

  • Organise kitchen and purchasing
 

Time Required

Indeterminate and open ended - this is a high commitment ministry

Supported in role by Parish staff and Event Helpers

 
   

Office Administrator

Description of Role

To assist the priest in carrying out routine clerical tasks in the Parish Office.  This would include filing, record keeping, bill payment, maintaining the parish computer databases.

 

Time Required

Parish Office Manager – 1 day per week

Parish Records Assistant - ½ day per month

Basic office or administration skills

Computer literate

Discretion and ability to keep information confidential

 

Support Provided

Training will be available depending on individual requirements

 
   

Newsletter

Newsletter

Description of Role

All information, either written or via email is requested to be submitted by the Wednesday evening of each week, and is collected from Fr. Tom on Thursday mornings.

Material is edited by shortening lengthy inclusions, checking for inaccuracies in dates submitted and where appropriate, actually adding to if material is short on a particular week.  Submissions are prioritised, which can mean sometimes leaving articles out or holding over for a future week.

Once typed and formatted, it is checked and an original hard copy is passed to Fr. Tom for running off in the presbytery.

 

Time Required

A few hours each week.

Computer literate and sensitivity to requirements of newsletter and issues in the Parish.

Safeguarding & Child Protection

Safeguarding & Child Protection

Description of Role

The Parish Representative has special responsibility for promoting good and safe practices in all activities involving children, young people and vulnerable adults within the parish. They are the link between the parish and the diocese and as such are in regular contact with the Diocesan Co-ordinator and Administrator.

The Representative needs a sound knowledge of the policies and procedures and also who to contact.  They are involved in the recruitment of people to roles within the parish and have the responsibility for facilitating the Disclosure and Barring Service procedure at parish level and ensuring that everybody who is required to go through the procedure does so.

There is a team of helpers who help conduct interviews and process documentation.

 

Time Required

This is variable depending on number of DBS checks required, but will require a regular & increasing input.  Each interview takes around 1 hour to complete.

 

Gifts & Talents

Discretion, sensitivity and diplomacy are important as you will handle confidential information. 

Ability to work carefully and thoroughly.  Ability to work as part of a small team.

 

Support Provided

Training is provided by the Diocese, which needs to be undertaken.
Helper work under direct supervision of the Parish Representative.

Support when needed from the  Diocese Safeguarding Officer's team.
